Good day, and welcome to Season Five! As you may recall, when we left our heroes in the midst of a cliffhanger, Emma absorbed the Dark One’s miasmic power to keep it from flowing into Regina. Cliffhanger!

S5:E1 Dark Swan

“The heroes band together to save Emma.”
Airdate: September 27, 2015

• The Sword in the Stone!
• Young Emma casually steals a giant candy bar. Was that a Wonka Bar?

• Who is this guy? I don’t need chatty ushers when I’m trying to watch a movie.
• “Leave the Sword alone”? Was he talking about the Dark One’s dagger?
• Either the hills are alive, or they’re taking the Hobbits to Isengard.

• He chose… poorly.

• Remember when you could do this at Disneyland?
• Omg, the sword is broken and the tip is clearly the Dark dagger!
• “Guyliner”!
• Armus? Somebody tell Tasha to get behind a rock.

• I love Carlyle as Rumple as the power of the Dark One in Emma’s head.
• Huh, the Apprentice didn’t die.
• “She is now where all darkness is born. In your realm.” Meaning the Enchanted Forest?
• Oh no not Light Magic again.
• Wicked, eh? Wonder who they’ll get.
• Don’t make Emma angry, you wouldn’t like her when she’s angry.
• Hmm, this seems familiar. 🥀
• It’s a wisp. Where’s Merida?
• “I am powerless,” says the least trustworthy person in this scene.
• Oh, I wasn’t actually expecting Merida.
• This is a terrible idea, Killian.
• “You need a hobby to take your mind off the terrible things you’re going to do. Have you tried knitting?
• Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?
• Wow, that’s one way of removing the cuff. 👋🏻
• Do we believe Zelena when she says she just wants to leave? Still, we need the wand to save Emma.
• That was a pretty risky plan.
• She left her cloak!
• “Accent’s a bit much, no?” says the imitable Robert Carlyle.
• So we’re letting Granny’s diner get sucked up by the twister?
• Grumpy announcement! 🍻

• Dark Rumple with some real Emperor Palpatine vibes here.
• Whoa, Emma, really? 🍅
• Not a way to make an ally but at least she didn’t kill her.
• The actress playing Merida (Amy Manson) plays Maladie in The Nevers.
• There better be some stockinged feet under the porch.
• Camelot!

• Where’s Tink though?

• Six weeks later! Everyone is back and wearing amazing clothes!
• Based on her new outfit, Emma watched Dark City while she was away.
• Regina’s dress. ❤️❤️❤️

S5:E2 The Price

“There is no cheating the price of magic.”

• Poor Sneezy?
• Another new curse??
• Snow Queen, Pan, Trio of Terror!

• I’ve been turned into a tree, can I go now?

• Merlin is also a tree. Just like Amberle.
• Regina is the Savior, sure.
• “It’s far easier to hate a Dark One than to love one.”
• Dark Emma sneers just so perfectly.

• What is Dark Emma’s motivation here?
• Wait, MM and Charming lied? But that never happens.
• “Arthur, you’re with me.” Just ordering the king around.
• They went to Storybrooke REI.
• “Tree demon!” — Leroy
• Interesting lock on that door. Wonder what that’s about.
• “You want to do this the hard way? Good, because I love the hard way.”
• Dang. That’s a big jewel.
• Snow and Charming are perfectly at home in medieval clothes.
• Of course, Regina went for the Evil Queen dress.
• A spying gem! That always goes well.

• The tree demon is a Fury sent to collect on a magical credit card?
• Belle is wearing a pretty dress for once!
• “Gramps”
• Henry has an iPod. Remember iPods?
• Henry!! You are not playing “Only You” for your crush!! Winning.

• Eek, Robin got stabbed. But we know he lives, so, okay.
• Is any magic performed by Emma automatically dark magic?
• So that was Emma volunteering, not charging a price. Huh.
• The CG budget went up this season!
• Just like on Xandar.

• I see the diner has been fully restored.
• This is so perfect. I just can’t. Henry is playing Yazoo for his crush.
• “Who you were doesn’t matter. What matters is who you are.”
• Thanks for fixing Sneezy, Regina.
• “Renewed shall be blade that was broken: The crownless again shall be king.”
