#OUaTrevisit: S5:E17/18
This will be posted to my Mastodon account; don’t forget to read my fellow Revisitors Katie’s and Cindy’s posts too!
As I’ve noted, I’m kind of over the Underworld arc; but I did think this week’s pair of episodes were unusually good. We’re really starting to see some interesting character development and backstories.
As I’ve also noted, I stopped watching OUaT before the final season during the original run. I don’t remember exactly when I gave up; it might have been before the end of season five or early in season six. However, I’m absolutely sure I have never seen season five, episode 18 (discussed below) — I would have remembered.
S5:E17 Her Handsome Hero
“Belle’s decision may cost her Rumplestiltskin.”
Airdate: April 10, 2016
- Okay, first of all, WHAT? That slug doesn’t make any sense.
- I had forgotten how little Gaston actually appeared in the early seasons.
- Lord LeGume, really? Sounds pretty salty.
- I covet Gaston’s jacket.
- “So, you have accepted the truth.”
- Oh right, because Merlin had such great ideas.
- Was that an ogre? I’ve got an ogre-slaying knife, it’s plus-nine against ogres!
- Is that an Oz-tornado?
- So MM didn’t just get whisked away by something?
- I really like how Regina is now casually using Emma’s name with no snark or sharpness at all.
- Pretty sure the centuries-old pirate who’s seen it all would know runes when he saw them.
- Did they try speaking “friend“?
- I’m fascinated by this take on Hades as just another powerful magic-user. Not a deity; just someone who, with the right set of skills and knowledge, can be defeated.
- Ah, the cemetery scene was a premonition.
- A flower grows in the Underworld.
- I assume Gaston has six or seven dogs?
- I hope we see LeFou in a future episode.
- It’s a trap! Probably.
- I like the way Emilie de Ravin pronounced the word “nefarious”.
- Yes, Belle, ONCE AGAIN.
- Back in the Sad Cafe with Emma Caulfield.
- Do you think Hades, the powerful magic user who rules this land, won’t find someone in the forest?
- Rumple has a point.
- A record of every magical item in the kingdom, interesting.
- No, “A Woman of Substance” is a different book.
- “I’ll watch over the ogre” meaning kill it, probably.
- I think the animal shelter set has been used as the back of Granny’s.
- Yay, another Regina dig at Killian.
- “I don’t have any issues” says the ex-Dark Savior.
- Shot him in the back. Classy.
- There’s the Gaston I know!
- Ah, that’s a lie. Gaston wants to kill the ogre, so he allowed it to escape.
- “Belle, you can trust me.” — someone who has never told the truth, ever.
- Here we come, we’re fifty strong, and fifty people of ambiguous origins can’t be wrong.
- A flash of red in Gaston’s eyes in the mirror. Obviously.
- The ogre kinda looks like one of the blue Avatar people.
- Ohh nice job Belle, getting the dagger!
- Oops. 🌊
- Ugh, Gaston is such a… whatever.
- Now, why would you hand it back to him?
- If you aren’t going to order anything, you can’t just sit here and use the wifi.
- Red!! 🐺
S5:E18 Ruby Slippers
“Ruby enlists the heroes to find Dorothy.”
Airdate: April 17, 2016
- I’m always happy to see Meghan Ory in the credits.
- She’s sniffing in the wrong place!
- A strip of gingham. Now, who wore that… 🌪️
- Ruby was still hanging out with Mulan. I’d love to see a spinoff of their adventures.
- Talking about seeing “The Wizard of Oz” in Storybrooke. This brings me back to a point from very early in the Revisit about what happens if you know your life is from fiction.
- Also, refresh my memory, I don’t think Mulan was ever in Storybrooke, was she? She stayed with Aurora and Philip and then (we discovered later) went to train Merida.
- Toto!
- Episode directed by Eriq la Salle, known for a lot of things including Darryl Jenks in “Coming to America”.
- What did Zelena do to Ruby?
- Whatever Hades suggests is automatically a bad idea.
- Zelena wanted Dorothy’s silver slippers so she could get back to Storybrooke. After Regina sent her away in a tornado. The timeline here is a little mangled.
- “Chisel Chin Junior” is another classic Cruella-ism. I suppose the end of the Underworld arc will also be the last we see of Victoria Smurfit unless Henry actually does author Cruella back to life.
- The whiskey bottle is labeled “Moloch” and I really want that bottle.
- Poppies will put her to sleep!
- Dorothy is seriously grumpy.
- This exposition is brought to you by the looks between Ruby and Dorothy.
- Killian’s hair looks weird, right?
- Do the slippers work for more than one person at a time?
- Oh right, happy endings, haven’t heard that plot point in a while.
- Are you going to do something at least adjacent to the right thing, Zelena?
- Those meaningful looks again. I think I know who’s going to give Dorothy her TLK.
- “No dogs allowed.”
- I… was not expecting that fate for dear sweet Auntie Em.
- You’re kind of wearing it on your sleeve, there, Ruby.
- “Love’s a funny thing, when I met Charming, I hit him in the face.”
- Ooh, I want Hades’ bar cart. I can’t find a picture of it.
- Mulan took care of someone else under a sleeping curse. Had to have hurt.
- ❤️😭❤️😭❤️
- Did ABC ever publish the Book?
- Belle puts herself under the sleeping curse. And Rumple says he can’t wake her. That’s kind of sad.
