This will be posted to my Mastodon account; don’t forget to read my fellow Revisitors Katie’s and Cindy’s posts too!

The storylines are heating up as we approach the Final Battle! A flashback to pre-season one, a quick visit to Neverland and another to Oz, and some wedding planning. And more delightful scene-chewing by the Black Fairy, who doesn’t seem to have a name other than her title.

S6:E17 Awake

“Hook and Tiger Lily join forces against the Lost Boys.”
Airdate: April 16, 2017

  • Tiger Lily, not Maleficent Junior Lily. We haven’t seen Malefecient’s daughter Lily in quite some time.
  • Meanwhile, in Neverland, “Get the pirate! Make him pay!”
  • Regina’s severe black suit is 🔥
  • David grabbing Regina’s hands to make his point really shows how far they’ve all come.
  • Ohh, pre-season one flashback!
  • The sly smile on Mayor Regina’s face!
  • Wait what? David wasn’t cursed, he remembers it all? And now she remembers?? This didn’t happen.
  • Zelena is helping our heroes, I like it.
  • A failsafe. Pretty sneaky.
Your opponent can sneak up on you and win the game.
  • This whole scene absolutely did not happen in the established history. Fascinating!
  • “Reg- I mean Mayor Mills” (wince)
  • Pixie petals! They grow “in reaction to great evil” which sounds delightful. And the great evil is, of course, the Black Fairy.
  • Oops, BF has the dagger. Must have grabbed it from Gideon.
  • “I’ll never join you!”
Wouldn’t you give your hand to a friend?
  • Did Gold really not remember? I thought he did.
  • THAT’S what woke him up. Emma.
  • The flower of plot convenience.
  • Meanwhile, back in Neverland again… What’s up, Tiger Lily?
Her OUaT outfit is pretty accurate to the animated movie.
  • “The coming war” is the final battle Isaac was talking about, yes?
  • Regina suspects MM is awake, but she’s not sure.
  • It’s a super-bloom!
  • You’ll know when the final battle begins, because it’ll be in the episode slug. “The Final Battle Begins.”
  • The most powerful wand ever made, so, the Sorcerer’s wand? Or is this one even more powerful?
  • Tiger Lily used to be a fairy, okay, sure.
  • Oh no, not Pumbaa!
Gas-fired grill?
  • “Get her? That was your plan?”
  • It’s Hook’s shadow.
  • He does, actually, have a child who is out there.
  • One flower left! Hey laughing boy, one flower left!
I know, I know, one flower left.
  • [Magical Tinkering]
  • What cassette is Emma listening to on her Walkman? I can’t make it out.
Does this cassette cover ring any bells?
  • Bottom of the pile: a bootleg copy of Wang Chung.
  • Rumple said they’re eighteen years too early for Emma’s 28th birthday. Season one takes place in 2011, which means this scene, looking in on Emma at age ten, is in 1993. In 1993 I was 23, just back from Desert Storm, and playing a lot of D&D.
  • Does Regina react to Snow admitting she’d been awake after all? I would have liked Regina to say “I knew it!” followed by dirty looks and then under her breath “(I knew it.)”
  • The powder worked! But they left Tiger Lily behind. I suppose she’ll be okay.
  • I thought for a minute that TLK might break the current curse, but no.
  • Risky, you say? We’re in!
  • If everyone takes a sip then the spell’s power is diluted. Okay.
  • (I’m pretty sure the goblet is empty)
  • Oh everyone is asleep. Creepy.
  • Good on you, David.
  • If you come at the Black Fairy, you’d best not miss.

S6:E18 Where Bluebirds Fly

“Zelena decides to take on the Black Fairy.”
Airdate: April 23, 2017

  • I don’t see this ending well for Zelena. She’s more powerful than Regina, but not Darkest Rumple and definitely not the Black Fairy.
  • Does the Black Fairy even have a name?
  • We’re back in Oz with Young Zelena!
  • Young Zelena who has not yet learned to maybe not show off her power so openly.
  • “Are you a witch?”
  • Ugh, monster again.
  • “Stanum” feels like it was a placeholder name in the script that wasn’t removed for shooting.
  • Ohh boy. BF starts off by taking Baby Robin.
  • Zelena doesn’t deny she’s wicked.
  • “I’m not afraid.” “You will be.”
In this creaky metaphor, Zelena is Luke and Baby Yoda is Yoda.
  • “A quick and bracing shower.”
  • When did Emma get an iPhone? This is 2017, but most Storybrookians still have flip phones.
  • Zelena’s reaction to BF’s half-threat was to call Regina, who called Emma. Zelena may not be a hero (yet) but she’s leaving villainy behind.
  • “Noir-colored nit!”
  • The Blue Fairy is older than Rumple. We didn’t know that.
  • Belle and Zelena don’t have much in common but I like how they bond over motherhood.
  • [Magical Tinkering]
  • Neat glowing pen. Can I buy one at World of Disney?
  • David recognizes something in Henry’s drawings. He’s not going to go off and do something dangerously stupid without telling anyone, is he?
  • “Your Wickedness!”
  • I like how Zelena’s guards are definitely inspired by the movie.
  • Dumb Zelena/Regina fight. Just dumb.
  • Let’s get married at Granny’s! Sure, I guess?
  • What’s gotten into David though? He’s being jerkier than usual even for him.
  • I don’t care for the way Regina talks down to Zelena.
  • Good thing her green makeup isn’t running in the rain.
  • Hey, it’s Aslan. Disney made two Narnia movies, so they’re fair game.
He is a very large lion.
  • Fairy crystals. Is that what makes fairy dust?
  • “I’m not interested in Light Magic!”
  • They’re running through the pirates tunnel on Tom Sawyer Island, right?
  • Oops, now all the crystals have been turned dark. That seems bad.
  • Bad CGI on the lion. Like, really bad.
  • Jeez, Regina, this is not cool. I don’t like it. Don’t treat your sister like that.
  • I don’t care about David shvitzing about the wedding. Has he made one objectively correct choice in the entire series?
  • Does Zelena have a bean or something else to open an Oz portal? Oh, she’s using a crystal fragment.
  • So the magical glass heart is just… laying there?
  • Wicked Zelena. Whatever. Leaving Stanum there to rust.
  • Now it’s time for you to apologize to Zelena, Regina.
  • This is pretty clever: Zelena’s magic powers the black crystals, so if it’s drained into the glass heart, the crystals are empty. Maybe.
  • The Black Fairy is back to square one, but the heroes are down by their most powerful magic-user.
  • A little crumbled Pixie Crystal is enough to kick-start Blue’s heart.
Say I got trouble, trouble in my eyes
I’m just looking for another good time
  • Oh, what could BF’s Darkest Secret possibly be? Drama!
