OH MY WHAT THERE’S A MUSICAL EPISODE

Sorry. First things first: #OUaTrevisit supports the WGA.

From OUaT writer Adam Horowitz’s Instagram

I find myself wishing I’d experienced this amazing spectacle in real time with everyone else. S6:E20 aired only six years ago, so most of the reactions and blogs and such are still online. Did I spend a few hours after watching digging deep into “WHAT DID THEY JUST DO?!?!”, yes, yes I did. But first, episode 19.

S6:E19 The Black Fairy

“Rumple’s mother learns his destiny is prophesized.”
Airdate: April 30, 2017

  • Fairies!
  • Finally, we have BF’s name: Fiona.
  • Tiger Lily is Rumple’s fairy godmother. Huh. Did she just draw the short straw or what?
  • That’s a much better dress for Blue!
  • Oops, the unhatched dragon egg fumes didn’t wake up the icon of good. Or did it? Does she wake up as herself? It would be like “I’m sure this toxic substance will help, let’s try more.”
  • Did not care for the strangulation scene, even after BF transformed.
  • Zelena has no magic so she has to assemble IKEA furniture by hand.
  • Ugh, Belle, really? He lies and betrays you over and over and all you do is cling to him.
  • Emma gets a cute slouchy knit cap in the dream realm.
  • “Saviors have the luxury of always doing the right thing.”
  • Who has a scar like a crescent moon? Somebody we haven’t seen yet.
  • A little bit of Welsh and Fiona transforms herself into a fairy. How well did that work out for Jafar, though?
  • Zelena’s driving lesson! Is it a Gremlin or a Pacer?
  • Ooh, the Sacred Fairy Vault. Is it next door to the Indiana Jones vault?
  • (Dearie)
  • Secrets under the jukebox. There were other things in the cache, too.
  • I don’t know, Regina at full power has a pretty good win/loss record.
  • Zelena took to driving pretty quickly after all.
  • After all this buildup, what could the big secret possibly be?
  • Fairy Fiona becomes the Black Fairy through her act of evil. And she has the scar, which means she’s destined to destroy her son.
  • Rumple is a Dark Savior! This means Belle is going to once again fall for him, sigh.
  • Oof. Fiona used the Shears of Destiny on baby Rumple. And was promptly banished to the Phantom Zone.
  • This whole family belongs on an episode of some 90s daytime talk show.
  • Wow, Dad, way to cast all your troubles onto your infant son. I suppose this is why you didn’t feel too sorry about, you know, abandoning him on a jungle island.
  • Seems like we missed part of the story there. What did Rumple really do to Fiona? I don’t believe anything he says.
  • Yeah, he’s lying.
  • Aw, “Operation Best Man.”
  • Do not block the gate ever!!!
  • Whose heart was that then, or was it even a heart?
  • Yeah, lady, Emma gets wacko threats like yours every day and twice on Sunday. Have you never even seen the show?

S6:E20 The Song in Your Heart

“Storybrooke residents discover the power of song.”
Airdate: May 7, 2017

  • Young Emma is trying out for the talent show by humming the show theme.
  • Did Snow just wish upon a star? I hear that helps.
  • This…this is the best thing I’ve ever seen.
“With our powerful magic, we now have the means, ’cause love can defeat curses, potions, or beans.”
  • Regina, Zelena, and Emma having mimosas.
  • Emma’s makeup this week doesn’t look good. Are we trying to portray stress or was it just inconsistent?
  • EQ and Mirror Sidney singing a duet. I am here for this.
  • She just killed those guards! Why would you even sign up with her?
  • Just staring open-mouthed at EQ’s power ballad.
  • “Let me help.”
  • Smee!
  • Hook’s song! This just keeps getting more amazing.
  • BF has the drop on Hook. Now she has a hostage. Except he escapes, or she lets him go?
  • Why does Emma still have the tape recorder and why is it still cued to that point?
  • I was looking forward to Robert Carlyle singing.
  • Zelena wasn’t really in this part of the story but OMG this song.
“What they call green with envy, I just call looking good.”
  • This song wins, for me. The best out of all of them. If you watch ’til the end of the embedded video above, there’s a clip of Rebecca Mader singing live at a convention; I recommend it.
  • Regina needs to upgrade her security spells. Too easy to get into the vault.
  • Emma has always had this self-sacrifice thing.
  • The look of disgust on EQ’s face when Snow and Charming start singing!
  • The voice-taking spell is Zelena’s but it resembles one Ursula used once or twice.
  • Her heart can’t be crushed because it has her family’s songs in it. Or something.
  • And now, a musical recap of the previous six seasons, set to the tune of the show’s theme.
I wish we’d had a Fiona song, actually.
  • Archie is going to marry them!
  • Emma’s dress is perfect.
  • “For all eternity” is maybe a little on the nose.
  • The songs sound an awful lot like “Enchanted” and “Tangled”. That’s a good thing.
  • And now the news, with Leroy.
How else would we know something terrible is about to happen?
